How to avoid metamerism effect
How to avoid Metamerism Effect.
Metamerism Effect is said to be the most difficult challenge in dyeing & color matching.
What is Metamerism Effect?
Two objects in same matching color under a certain light source show different colors under an other light source, we call this phenomenon Metamerism Effect, please see a vivid example below:
Metamerism effect must be closely minitored and carefully controlled when assess the color of elastic tape or lace trim according to a fabric swatch or Pantone paper swatch, even according to a same elastic or lace swatch from other sources. Because different material & texture, or same material & texture from different sources usually have different spectral power distributions, the perceived color matching under a certain light source is not certainly a real color matching, when light source changes, the matching color can become not matching, even obviously different.
To avoid or minimize the metamerism effect and get the most real color matching,
1. Use consistent quality dyestuff.
2. Use computerized color matching.
3. Compare the colors under at least 2 light sources at the same time, such as D65 and TL84.
